Proxmox VE’s first official Arm64 release adds support for Nvidia Grace Hopper and Vera systems after validation with Nvidia and Supermicro.

Proxmox Server Solutions has released its first officially supported Arm64 edition of Proxmox Virtual Environment, bringing the open-source virtualization platform to Arm server hardware. Proxmox Arm64 support is available immediately as bare-metal ISO images and through package repositories, following technical work with Nvidia and Supermicro.

The launch is specifically scoped. The Register reports that the fully supported platforms are Nvidia Grace Hopper and Vera systems. Proxmox’s own release identifies Nvidia Grace and Vera CPU architectures as day-one support, while saying its engineers jointly validated the port on Nvidia Grace Hopper Superchip server systems with Nvidia and Supermicro. The company has not established an official support tier for other Arm server vendors in its announcement.

For operators, the release means Proxmox VE can manage Arm64 virtual machines and Linux containers on supported hardware. Proxmox says users receive the existing web management interface, software-defined networking, storage, high-availability clustering and backup capabilities. Those are the management functions that sit within cloud infrastructure, converting underlying servers, networks and storage into resources teams can operate as a pool.

What hardware does Proxmox Arm64 support at launch?

Proxmox says Nvidia Grace and Nvidia Vera CPU architectures are supported in the initial release. The more specific validation environment it describes is Nvidia Grace Hopper Superchip servers, developed in collaboration with Nvidia and Supermicro. The distinction matters for infrastructure teams evaluating a purchase: the announcement documents validation on Grace Hopper systems, rather than independently naming a broad set of Supermicro configurations as supported products.

The Arm64 build is version 9.2 and shares its code base, package repositories and release lifecycle with the x86-64 version, according to The Register. The publication reports that the release is based on Debian 13.5, Linux kernel 7.0, QEMU 11.0, LXC 7.0 and ZFS 2.4.

What does the Arm port include?

Proxmox claims feature parity with its x86 deployments across KVM virtualization, networking, clustering, ZFS and Ceph. It also says it optimized ZFS and Ceph for performance, reliability and feature parity. Those are vendor product claims, not independently published benchmark results.

Proxmox said the Arm stack is already operating in select enterprise production environments. Enterprise support for Arm64 deployments is available on request, the company said.

How does this relate to Nvidia Mission Control?

The Arm release follows a July 28 announcement in which Proxmox said it was integrating Proxmox VE with Nvidia Mission Control. Proxmox described VE’s role there as a virtualized management plane for services supporting Nvidia accelerated infrastructure, including Blackwell and Vera Rubin platforms. It also said it was engineering VE to help bring up Nvidia Grace and Vera CPU architectures.

Together, the announcements show Proxmox extending its virtualization software into Nvidia-oriented Arm server environments. The immediate practical boundary remains the documented launch support: Grace Hopper and Vera systems, with Proxmox’s validation work conducted alongside Nvidia and Supermicro.
