LinkedIn is adding an AI slop flag, new classifiers and creator feedback after reports of widespread AI-generated posting.

LinkedIn AI slop is now getting a formal reporting path: the Microsoft-owned network is adding a “Seems like AI slop” option for posts and comments, Chief Product Officer Hari Srinivasan said Thursday. The move matters for operators, recruiters and sales teams because LinkedIn’s feed quality is part of the platform’s commercial value, and the company is now acknowledging that automation has become a material problem.

A LinkedIn spokesperson said the new reporting option is being added to the ellipsis menu on posts and will apply to both posts and comments. Srinivasan said the signal from users will also feed LinkedIn’s own detection systems, helping the company tune models used to identify AI-written or low-quality material.

LinkedIn is also changing a product choice that had helped normalize AI-polished posting. Srinivasan said the company is replacing its “enhance your post” feature, which rewrote users’ wording with AI, with a proofreading option meant to preserve the author’s own style. The company did not say when every user will see the replacement feature.

What is LinkedIn doing about AI slop?

AI slop generally refers to low-effort generative AI content produced at scale, often with generic phrasing, thin ideas or engagement-bait structure. Srinivasan said LinkedIn is working on the issue through user reports, new content classifiers, changes to writing assistance and creator feedback inside analytics dashboards.

The dashboard change is notable because it gives posters a human signal, rather than leaving the judgment only to automated detection. Srinivasan said LinkedIn wants members to know when other users think a post sounds inauthentic, while also recognizing that AI detection tools can make mistakes.

The company is drawing a line between AI use and low-quality automation. Srinivasan said “AI and slop are not the same thing,” adding that many people use AI to refine their thoughts and may want to know when the result no longer sounds like them.

How big is the AI content problem on LinkedIn?

LinkedIn did not publish a platformwide share of AI-generated content. Outside analysis suggests the issue is widespread, though it depends on the accuracy of detection tools. Originality.ai, an AI detection company, said Thursday that it reviewed 5,000 LinkedIn posts longer than 100 words this month and classified 81% as likely AI-generated.

The same company reported in 2024 that more than half of LinkedIn posts over 100 words appeared likely to be AI-generated. LinkedIn has not endorsed those figures in the announcement described by Srinivasan.

Srinivasan said the problem is not limited to individual members using AI writing tools. He said LinkedIn is catching hundreds of thousands of automated comment attempts every day and has blocked billions of other automation attempts, including posting at scale, in the past couple of months.

LinkedIn’s response includes what Srinivasan described as new and improved classifiers to identify AI slop and generally low-quality content. The company did not provide precision or recall data for those systems, nor did it say how user reports will affect ranking, distribution or enforcement against accounts.

For LinkedIn, the operational risk is straightforward: if professional feeds become harder to trust, the platform becomes less useful for hiring, selling, fundraising and reputation-building. The new flag is a small product change, but it signals that LinkedIn sees feed degradation from generative AI and automation as a priority rather than a side effect of user behavior.
