Cisco Cloud Control AI nears US release with networking models

Cisco is preparing to release Cisco Cloud Control AI to US customers by the end of August, pairing an agentic operations interface with networking models the company says can diagnose infrastructure problems across its product stack. Pricing has not been finalized, and Cisco has not said how many usage tokens will be included with existing subscriptions.

The release is Cisco’s latest attempt to turn AI from a product label into an operations layer for enterprise networking. DJ Sampath, senior vice president and general manager of Cisco’s AI Software and Platform business, told The Register that Cisco has built a deep networking AI model that will appear “shortly” on Hugging Face, where the company has already published its Antares security models.

Sampath said the networking model “understands routing and switching configs” and claimed it can solve network problems better than a frontier model. Cisco has not disclosed benchmark results, training details, model size or the data used to support that comparison.

What is Cisco Cloud Control?

Cloud Control is an agentic operations tool meant to give network administrators a single place to ask questions about Cisco-managed infrastructure. Cisco says the system can pull and analyze information from whichever Cisco products a customer has deployed, reducing the need to move among multiple product-specific consoles during troubleshooting.

One example Sampath gave involved a device that cannot connect to Wi-Fi on a specific floor of a building. He said Cloud Control agents could check relevant security policies and the channels offered by an access point to help determine why the connection failed.

Cisco also says the tool can explain the impact of a proposed fix. If an issue requires a reboot, Sampath said Cloud Control could describe the affected systems so administrators can decide when to take that action.

How will Cisco charge for Cloud Control?

Cisco plans to bundle Cloud Control with other Cisco products, according to the company, but it has not completed the pricing model. Like other AI services, the product consumes tokens. Cisco intends to include a certain token allocation with existing subscriptions and later determine how customers will pay for usage above that level.

The company also plans to make its networking models available for on-premises deployment, including on clusters of Cisco UCS servers. That option is aimed at customers that do not want operations workloads governed by token-based cloud consumption or that prefer to keep infrastructure data inside their own environments.

When will Cisco Cloud Control be available outside the US?

Cisco expects to bring Cloud Control to Europe and Asia-Pacific in the coming months. Sampath said the staggered launch reflects both infrastructure buildout and regulatory work.

The regulatory issue is material because Cloud Control needs access to customer systems to do its job. Sampath said that raises questions about sensitive data, local laws, security and governance in each region where Cisco offers the service.

Cisco is not positioning Cloud Control as an immediate replacement for its existing product consoles. Sampath said customers have built processes around those tools and trained staff to use them. That view lines up with Gartner’s prediction that AI management products may add to the number of tools enterprises use before they reduce it.
