UK robotics software startup Kinematic Trees has raised £585,000 in pre-seed funding to develop its robot-agnostic software platform, putting new capital behind an integration layer meant to make robotics software easier to reuse across different machines. The Kinematic Trees funding round was backed by Haatch through its SEIS Fund, D2N2 Early-Stage Angel Investment Fund and the British Business Bank Syndicate Fund; valuation, revenue, customer count and current headcount were not disclosed.
The company said the money will go toward product development, international deployment and hiring across commercial, robotics and software engineering roles. It plans to expand teams in London, Nottinghamshire and Sheffield.
Kinematic Trees was founded in 2025 by CEO Dr Stuart Wilson and CTO Daniel Camilleri. The startup is positioning itself around a persistent problem in robotics: hardware capability has improved, but deployment still depends on software that can be adapted to specific bodies, tools and use cases.
What does Kinematic Trees do?
Kinematic Trees builds a software integration layer intended to work across multiple robot hardware platforms. The company says its platform turns specialist robotics knowledge into modular software components that can be reused, combined and adapted for new applications.
That claim matters because robotics companies often face high integration costs when moving from one machine, customer site or operating environment to another. Kinematic Trees says its approach is inspired by principles of natural intelligence, and is designed to support advanced control systems that can transfer across different robot embodiments. The company has not disclosed technical benchmarks, pricing or specific supported hardware platforms.
Wilson said recent progress in robotics hardware and artificial intelligence has lowered the cost of putting robots into operation, while software remains a constraint on wider adoption. Camilleri said broader use of robotics will depend on portable software rather than progress tied to any single hardware platform.
The company said it is working with robotics providers on integrated solutions for manufacturing, healthcare, education and the creative industries. It did not name those providers or identify commercial customers.
What will the funding be used for?
Kinematic Trees said the pre-seed round will support three immediate priorities:
- continued development of its robot-agnostic software platform;
- international deployment work;
- growth of its commercial, robotics and software engineering teams across London, Nottinghamshire and Sheffield.
The startup also said it expects to announce its first factory deployments and new partnerships with robotics providers and software developers in the second half of 2026. Those deployments have not yet been named, so the practical test for the company will be whether its software can reduce integration work in production settings rather than in research or pilot environments.
Kinematic Trees is also involved in research into embodied artificial intelligence and cognitive architectures, areas connected to personal and industrial robotics adoption. For now, the disclosed business milestone is narrower: £585,000 in pre-seed capital to turn a portability thesis into deployable robotics software.
