OpenAI announced on August 10 that ChatGPT Business Premium seats are coming at $125 per user a month, or $100 per user a month on annual billing. The tier offers five times the included usage of a Standard seat and removes the five-hour usage limit, giving OpenAI a higher-priced option for teams with heavier use inside the same workspace.
Standard seats remain $25 per user monthly or $20 on annual billing, though OpenAI says prices can vary by country and currency. On list price, Premium costs exactly five times as much as Standard: $1,200 per user annually versus $240, while providing five times the included usage. The company has not disclosed token allowances, token pricing, or unit economics behind the new limits.
OpenAI said its Business customers had asked for more capacity as they use ChatGPT for larger tasks, including inventory work, marketing, performance analysis, customer experience work and product development. That is the company’s stated rationale. The announcement does not establish that agentic workloads or token consumption caused the pricing change.
What is the difference between ChatGPT Business Premium and Standard seats?
- Premium has five times the usage included with Standard.
- Premium does not have the five-hour usage limit applied to Standard.
- Premium usage resets on a weekly schedule.
- Premium costs $125 monthly or $100 monthly with annual billing; Standard costs $25 or $20, respectively.
The absence of a five-hour cap is the operational distinction beyond the fivefold capacity multiplier. Premium is still not unlimited: OpenAI says companies that reach an included limit can purchase shared workspace credits. Workspace owners can manage those credits, billing, usage and spending limits centrally.
Teams do not have to move an entire organization to the higher tier. Administrators can mix Standard and Premium seats in one Business workspace, assign or reassign them, and monitor workspace usage. That structure lets a company reserve the $100 annual-billing tier for users whose work routinely exceeds Standard limits, rather than applying it across every employee.
ChatGPT Business is OpenAI’s self-serve shared-workspace plan, with centralized billing and administrative controls. It is separate from the API platform, so a Business subscription does not include API usage; API use is billed separately. OpenAI also says it does not train on Business workspace data by default.
Availability remains limited for now. OpenAI is collecting registrations through a waitlist, and says some customers may receive access before general availability. The first 10,000 eligible customers who join can receive 2,500 workspace credits, valued by OpenAI at $100, for each Premium seat added, up to five seats or $500. OpenAI says the promotion ends August 20 and eligibility conditions apply.
