Nous has raised €2.315 million in seed funding to speed up commercialization of Koncentra, its botanical functional ingredient aimed at the energy category. The Italian company did not disclose a valuation, revenue, headcount or any sales metrics tied to the product.

The round was led by dsm-firmenich Ventures. FoodSeed, the foodtech program within CDP Venture Capital’s National Accelerator Network, also participated. FoodSeed was set up by CDP Venture Capital and Eatable Adventures through Accelera Ventures.

Nous develops botanical ingredients for food, beverage and nutraceutical companies. The company says its work is based on proprietary extraction technology and scientific validation, with an emphasis on natural alternatives in energy products. Koncentra, its lead branded ingredient, is positioned by the company as supporting energy, focus and mood.

Funding follows early strategic validation

Nous said Koncentra is moving through clinical research and commercial partnerships as the company pushes into international markets. The new capital is intended to fund additional clinical studies, build out evidence for Koncentra and extend the company’s supply chain across Europe and Asia.

The investor mix is relevant because dsm-firmenich is both a strategic investor and an existing partner of Nous. That gives the startup access to ingredient-sector expertise and potential commercial channels, although Nous did not detail the terms of that partnership or specify whether dsm-firmenich has any distribution, supply or exclusivity rights tied to Koncentra.

Lorenzo Pessini, CEO of Nous, said the investment gives the company resources to strengthen Koncentra’s scientific position, expand its supply chain and develop more functional ingredients. The company described the round as part of a shift from validation toward broader commercialization.

Natural energy ingredients remain a crowded category

Nous is entering a market where food and beverage brands are looking beyond caffeine and sugar-led positioning, particularly in products marketed around energy, focus and wellbeing. The company’s pitch sits in that demand curve, but the commercial test will be whether Koncentra can win formulation slots with manufacturers and support claims that brands can use in regulated markets.

The company said it is expanding its network of commercial partners across Europe. It did not name those partners beyond dsm-firmenich, nor did it disclose customer count, contracted volume or a timeline for product launches using Koncentra.

Alongside Koncentra, Nous said it is developing additional functional ingredients through the same extraction platform. The company also plans to add staff for its next stage of international growth, though it did not say which roles it is hiring for or how large the team will become.
